Technology Transforming Giving

At the 2024 Immersive Tech Week in Rotterdam, the organization Rise Against Hunger Italia showcased a project that integrates cutting-edge technologies such as neurotechnology, 3D visualization, and Metaverse elements into donation campaigns. The goal is to make donations not only more efficient but also emotionally engaging.

Neurotechnology in the donation process

A central element of the campaign was packaging 10,000 meals for children in Zimbabwe. Neurotechnology tracked participants’ brain activity to analyze their mental processes during giving. The technology demonstrated how altruistic actions influence self-awareness, creating a direct feedback loop between action and reflection.

  • Mental Effects: Measuring brainwaves during the packaging process.
  • Emotional Reflection: Making giving a conscious experience.
  • Innovative Application: Using technologies in humanitarian contexts.

XR and the Metaverse as a Bridge

XR technology was also utilized to create an immersive experience. Participants selected virtual cards showcasing cultural symbols of the recipient countries. These cards guided them through the packaging process, fostering an emotional connection with the supported regions. The packaging boxes were digitally personalized, enhancing interaction between donors and recipients.

A highlight of the event was the ability to interact with children in Zimbabwe in real-time. Through a Metaverse platform, participants could directly communicate with the recipients of their aid, significantly amplifying the emotional impact of the campaign.

  • Direct Interaction: Communicating with recipients in real-time.
  • Personalized Boxes: Digital customizations enhance connections.
  • Experiential Giving: Donations as an interactive experience.

Technology Unlocking New Perspectives

This project demonstrates how technology can optimize processes and create deeper connections. The combination of neurotechnology and immersive applications opens new possibilities for donation campaigns, establishing a model for the future of humanitarian aid.
